Field Tips


Hard or Frozen Ground

Whether using Farm Form or other decoys, it’s a good idea to use a hand ax or a separate metal rod or dowel to break through the top layers of hard, dry, or frozen ground. This will prevent breakage of heads and rods. When using the metal adaptor rods that come with your Farm Form decoys:


  • Use a separate rod or dowel to make a hole, using a hand ax, mallet, or hammer.
  • Drop the Farm Form Steel adapter rod into the hole and slide the Farm Form head on.
  • DO NOT HAMMER ON ENDS OF METAL ADAPTER RODS. Flattening the ends will prevent use with the Farm Form heads.
  • DO NOT USE FARM FORM HEADS TO FORCE THE METAL RODS INTO THE GROUND. This will result in damage to the heads and could make use of the metal adapter rods ineffective.
