Frequently Asked Questions

Will FARM FORM decoys work in water?

FARM FORM decoys are designed for use in fields and shallow marshes or around the shores of ponds and lakes. They can be used without the metal rods in water up to abut 4”. With the rods, they can be used in somewhat deeper water, depending on how firm the ground underwater is.

Can I use FARM FORM decoys in hard or frozen ground?

Whether using FARM FORM or other decoys, it’s a good idea to use a hand ax or one of the specially designed food presses to break through the top layers. This will prevent breakage of heads and rods. However, when using the metal adapter rods that come with your FARM FORM decoys, all you need is a hammer or mallet to drive the rods through the hard stuff, then slide the heads on and you’re hunting.

How many FARM FORM decoys needed to simulate a realistic spread?

The more decoys you can use, the more inviting your spread will be to birds from the air. However, even several dozen, well-placed decoys can bring them in. The trick is to group your decoys like birds would group themselves. (See Field Tips for spread layout suggestions)

What materials are FARM FORM decoys made of?

High density polyethylene: in other words, PLASTIC! One of the strongest, most durable plastics we’ve been able to find. The bodies of both the Super Waddlers and the Original Waddlers are cut from sheets of flexible poly and screen printed with feather detail. There is a significant difference between the feather detail on the Super Waddlers and the Original Waddlers. Both are effective, but the Super Waddlers (available only in Canada, Specklebelly and Blue) have literally life-like feather detail. Our artist took real goose feathers, scanned them into his computer and literally built, one feather at a time, the artwork for the Super Waddlers. The result: spreads of decoys that look positively alive! The silhouette heads are vacuum-formed into feeder and alert (also called “sentinel”) positions, then heat stamped with beak and eye detail. The heads are reinforced with sturdy ribbing the length of the shaft. The slots that hold the metal adapter rods are formed right into the shaft. The result is a system of components that can be combined to create Snow, Canada, Specklebelly and Blue goose decoys, allowing the hunter to customize his spread for the right kinds of birds, regardless of where his hunting takes him.
